Meet Pastor Enoch A. Adeboye
Affectionately called Daddy G.O. by members of The Redeemed Christian Church of God. He is not just your ordinary pastor. Instead he has been named among the world’s most influential personalities. The January 2009 issue of News Week Magazine named him amongst the top 50 most influential persons in the world.
Pastor Adeboye holds a Masters degree in Hydrodynamics and a PhD in Applied Mathematics and is the current General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God with headquarters in Lagos Nigeria.
The Redeemed Christian Church of God is a Pentecostal movement and is considered to be the fastest growing church in the world. Thanks to the passion and hard work of Pastor Adeboye and his team, The Redeemed Christian Church of God has spread to every continent as he embark on his mission of church planting worldwide. Pastor Adeboye sojourn in ministry started back in 1973 when he sought to have a deeper and closer relationship with God. His hunger led him to the then leader and founder of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Rev. J.O. Akindayomi who made such a positive impact on his life through the teaching of the word of the Lord that on that very day he made a total recommitment of his life to Christ and has never looked back since. Soon Rev. Akindayomi began grooming Adeboye for the leadership of the church which he finally took over in 1980 after the passing of the founder.
Under Pastor Adeboye’s leadership the Redeemed Christian Church of God has grown significantly. The once a month Holy Ghost Service which has now become a signature feature of Redeemed Christian Church of God, has consistently attracts millions of people every month at the church’s headquarters in Nigeria. This number is further increased with the many other parishes around the world which joins simultaneously in similar services.
In December of each year RCCG host the largest number of people gathered at any one setting at its annual Holy Ghost Congress in Nigeria. CCN satellite gives the total attendance as being over six million people.
Enoch Adeboye’s trade mark of humility is disarming and this endears him to people, enabling him to effectively share the gospel of Christ with them.
For several years, he has been honoured to serve as pastor and spiritual counsellor to Heads of States, Prime Ministers, Political Leaders and National Decision Makers in places like Israel, UK , several African nations and the UN. At the same time, he endeavours to travel to minister in unreached places where others will not go.
Pastor Adeboye has had the following accomplishments: Led in prayers for global peace at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York, United States (U.S.)
Led a prayer walk at the Twin Towers Ground Zero scene of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack in New York as the U.S. marks the 8th year anniversary of the attacks.
He held two separate meetings with the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu and President Shimon Peres, where he called for a global enforcement of the United Nations resolutions on the advancement of peace.
Pastor Adeboye hosted a summit meeting of religious leaders at the UN to present an initiative that would give religions, academics and parliamentarians a voice in the UN
Pastor Adeboye also met and had dialogue with the Bishop of London and Arch Bishop to her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
Pastor Adeboye has been conferred with numerous awards by various institutions and agencies around the world. He is married to wife Foluke Adenike Adeboye and has four children. He is a pastor, spiritual counsellor, mentor, and author of several books including the popular daily devotional “Open Heavens”.
